Double Success for Cornwall Design Firm Leading the Global Sustainable Movement

A Cornwall-based business has become the first design agency in the world to achieve the new .eco top level domain.

As a result, Leap, also became one of the first organisations in the UK to qualify for the domain suffix.

Businesses wanting to register the new .eco web domain suffix have to meet criteria, including achieving sustainability priorities based on the United Nations sustainable development goals. The UN’s action plan aims to protect the planet, end poverty and grow prosperity.

Leap’s creative director and founder, Matt Hocking, said: “We believe in designing with a purpose and creating work that matters.

“We create responsible and high-impact design solutions that exceed expectations to triple bottom line standards, as well as insist on materials and systems that protect and benefit the environment, their economies and their communities.

“Qualifying as the first UK company to secure the .eco domain further enhances our reputation in this area and we’re very proud of that fact.”

Jacob Malthouse, .eco. co-founder, said: “We anticipated a lot of interest from social entrepreneurs, but we were surprised by how global the sales have been thus far. We’ve already had companies, nonprofits and people in 80 different countries purchase .eco domain names and start websites.”

On top of being recognised by .eco, Leap also gained B Corporation re-accreditation.

Businesses that want to achieve B Corporation certification must achieve the highest standards of social and environmental performance, transparency and accountability.

“B-Corp is an ethical business movement with over 2,000 certified businesses globally,” said Matt.

“There is a rigorous application process to certify evaluated us on our business mission, values and operations.

“As part of the first B-Corp cohort, I’m really proud of the team for their commitment and effort in helping us secure reaccreditation, which puts us alongside global organisations including Ben & Jerry’s and Patagonia.”
